Choosing your Style of Safari
Wayoutback offers Adventure, Classic or Comfort style safaris.
Classic - Our original 4WD safaris operating in the Red Centre and now Top End. These safaris are suitable for all ages and supply a good level of comfort, with permanent camps, hot showers, toilets, sleeping bags and beds (with full linen) supplied. A reasonable level of fitness is required and group sizes are a maximum of 14/16 guests.
Adventure - All Adventure Safaris operate in minibuses with a capacity of 24 guests. Tours are active and tend to attract a younger customer however are still suitable for any client looking for a budget priced trip. Camps offer showers and toilets and twin share tents, but sleeping bags must be brought along or hired for $20. Safaris operate in the Top End, Red Centre and 'Connector' from Darwin to Alice Springs (and return).
Comfort - Comfort safaris are small group hotel accommodated safaris which operate in the Red Centre. They include 4.5 star hotels and operate with a minimum of two and a maximum of 6/14 guests.
Food and Drinks (Camping Safaris Only)
We have designed our menu to be as healthy as possible and appeal to modern tastes. For breakfast you have a selection of cereals, toast with spreads, orange juice, fresh plunger coffee and black or herbal teas. For lunch we provide salad ingredients and a selection of meats for sandwiches, plus fresh fruit. Dinners vary depending on time of year but usually include chicken or other meat, fresh vegetables, sauces with pasta or rice. Bush bread (damper) will also be prepared for you on an open fire. A glass of sparkling wine will be offered at Uluru sunset on our Classic Safaris.
All other alcohol is BYO.
Special Dietary Requirements
If you have any specific dietary requirements please inform our reservation staff at the time of booking so alternatives can be discussed. All dietary requirements are to be declared at the time of booking. Wayoutback Australian Safaris will not be held responsible for the catering/food supply for any individual where a dietary condition is undeclared.
We pride ourselves on the very high standard of our guides. We are one of only a couple of Advanced ECO Accredited tourism operators based in the Northern Territory and as such are very aware of our responsibility to provide well informed, highly trained tour guides. All guides have a sound knowledge of our local area focusing on its history, Aboriginal culture, geology and the natural environment.
Things You Should Know
Are you adventurous and enjoy meeting other travellers? Our camping safaris are designed to suit active people who enjoy small group dynamics.
GROUP PARTICIPATION: Our camping safaris do require a degree of participation with the preparation of meals, loading and unloading camping equipment, collecting firewood and the washing of dishes after meals.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: All camping Safaris offer the option of a tent or swag. We offer private campsites with bathroom facilities in remote locations across the Northern Territory. All linen including sheets, pillows, sleeping bags (Classic Safaris) and swags are included on our safaris.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN: Due to the small group size, children generally do not mix well with our other clients and for this reason we do not accept children under the age of 8 years on our Adventure & Classic Safaris and 5 on our Comfort Safaris. Children of any age are welcome on our Private Charters.
GROUP SIZE: The maximum group size is 16 passengers on our 'Classic' Safaris, 24 on our 'Adventure' Safaris and 14 on our 'Comfort' Safaris. We reserve the right to use smaller vehicles due to operational logistics.
Late model air conditioned 4WD vehicles (Classic and Comfort Safaris), mini buses (Adventure Safaris), meals (as listed), camping equipment, swags and pillows, laundered sheets and pillowcase, sleeping bags (Classic Safaris), reference books, chilled face cloths (Classic and Comfort Safaris during summer), some drinks with meals (cordial and juice) and supplies of drinking water (please provide your own bottle). All Park entry fees are included on our safaris.
Bush showers and toilets are available at most of our private bush camps.
What you’ll Need to Bring
As we are camping you will need to be prepared for this. A torch (flash light), a hat (wide brimmed best), sunscreen, insect repellent, fly net (summer), medication, a water bottle (at least 1.5 litres), walking shoes/boots (we do a lot of walking/ climbing), warm clothing (winter), sleeping bags on Adventure Safaris ($20 hire fee, winter and summer bags available), toiletries, swim wear, towel, camera (plus extra film/batteries, digital storage device), Travel Voucher/Ticket and a great sense of adventure. BYO wine or beer.
Space is limited; please bring one small bag per person. Ask at reception of your accommodation for excess baggage storage. Some listed items can be purchased from Wayoutback on departure.
Confirming and joining your Safari
For all safaris please call our Reservations no later than 48 hours prior to departure to confirm your pick-up point and time. Ayers Rock Airport pick-ups: Please notify Reservations of your Ayers Rock flight number and arrival time no later than 48 hours prior to departure for meeting instructions.
To ensure your Safari with us is enjoyable and without incident, medical conditions are to be made known to our Reservations staff at time of booking. Due to large distances between towns, we remind you that we may be many hours away from medical facilities. We reserve the right to seek a Medical Clearance before travelling with us. You are encouraged to carry enough medication required for the duration of your safari. Cold storage is available where required.
Booking and Payment
You can book direct with us by phoning 1300 551 510 (within Australia) or +61 8 8952 4324 (outside Australia) or via wayoutback.com. You can also book through most Travel Agents, Hostels and Hotels. You will be required to pay for your safari in full at the time of booking. Credit card details are required for Internet and Phone bookings. Credit Card payments incur a Merchant Levy and are subject to change without notice. MasterCard & Visa 1.4%, (at time of printing). Please check our website for current fees. A Travel Agent may take a deposit or the full amount depending on their relationship with Wayoutback. If a deposit is taken we will require credit card details to secure your booking and charge the outstanding amount.
Changes to Existing or Confirmed Bookings
Where an existing Booking is to be changed to an alternative departure date or tour type the following will apply:
1) Changes requested 1 - 7 days from departure date incur full Cancellation Fees and the full cost of the new tour selected will be charged.
2) Changes requested 8 days or more from departure date incur a $50 Administration Fee plus any difference in price from new tour selected.
For other changes to confirmed bookings a $50 Administration Fee will be charged.
Notice and Cancellation Fees
30 days or more, 25%; 14 – 29 days, 50%; 8 – 13 days, 75%; 0 – 7 days, 100%.

Wayoutback Australian Safaris strongly recommends that all Travellers have adequate Travel Insurance. Not only does it protect you against the costs of injury but it also gives you cancellation cover. Our underwriters are World Nomads.
Terms and Conditions
Wayoutback Australian Safaris Pty Limited reserves the right to amend safari times, itineraries and fares for its safaris as circumstances, time of year and operational reasons occur. There will be no refunds in these circumstances or for reasons such as delays incurred due to mechanical failure or weather conditions. Wayoutback Australian Safaris cannot guarantee exact pick-up and drop-off times and will accept no responsibility in the event of cancellation fees from other connecting services. Wayoutback Australian Safaris reserves the right to cancel a safari or arrange an alternative operator if group numbers are insufficient. Balances paid by credit card are subject to a merchant levy. Wayoutback Australian Safaris accepts no responsibility for any injury, illness or other such accident sustained whilst on safari with Wayoutback or while engaged in any activities with other tourist operators that may not be part of the Wayoutback itinerary but available during a Wayoutback safari. While all care is taken, the responsibility of children on tour rests entirely with the parent or caregiver. Central Australia can be hazardous with camp fires, splinters (some trees and shrubs are toxic), jagged rocks, cliffs, sun exposure and poisonous reptiles and insects. All customers, including children, must wear shoes at all times, use sunblock and wear hats. Individual Aboriginal location visits cannot be guaranteed for cultural reasons. In the event of a location or host not being available the fare for this component will be refunded.
Wayoutback Australian Safaris PTY LTD reserves the right to combine safaris of differing standards in the event that low numbers are endangering a scheduled departure being cancelled. In this instance guests will always be upgraded to a higher standard product. Guests travelling on a safari with upgraded guests will not be entitled to refunds in these instances. Just as airlines and hotels charge differing rates to guests for the same service, Wayoutback reserves the right to have multi level pricing on products where it is necessary to ensure guests travel plans are not disrupted.
Wayoutback Australian Safaris accepts no liability for lost, stolen or damaged property and strongly recommends clients have Travel Insurance, including Cancellation Cover. Cancellation fees apply.
