We have positions in Operations (vehicle preparation, cleaning, etc), Administration (bookings, filing, banking; will leave it to your imagination), Sales (flying around Australia, spreading the word) and of course, Tour Guides.

The role will involve high level customer service and sales of Wayoutback Australian Safaris product, and other tour and travel product and ancillary revenue product to achieve key financial, service performance and sales growth targets. To work as part of a team lead by the Reservations Manager, in delivering a professionally run, safe, economically viable and successful reservations environment. To be pro active with input and actions based on providing support to the requirements of the work team, by adhering to operating requirements and striving for the achievement of individual, team and company objectives as directed.
Tour Guides need to be innovative types who enjoy working with people. Most of our passengers are from overseas so some previous travel experience would be great to get you on the same planet. As we operate 4WD vehicles in remote locations, a basic understanding of mechanics and some practical common sense is a must, along with 4-wheel driving ability.
Wayoutback holds an “Advanced Eco Tourism” accreditation so we do take our responsibilities seriously when it comes to sustainable tourism and cultural sensitivities. We pride ourselves with our small group sizes on imparting more information than most of the competition. Other than that … it’s all about enjoying yourself and ensuring your customers have a fantastic time.
Cooking skills, first aid knowledge and physical fitness are required as is a willingness to learn about Australia, its history, flora and fauna, geology, Aboriginal mythology, history and culture. Sounds like a lot but if you have an interest in this kind of thing then it is totally fascinating. We offer a comprehensive training program to get you up to speed for what is one of the greatest and most satisfying jobs in the world.
Other than our in-house training, there are a couple of external hoops you will need to jump through before you’re on your way such as:
- Senior First Aid Certificate
- MR or LR License with H endorsements plus standard Medical Check
- Criminal History Check
Working with Childrens Card
Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park &/or Kakadu Guide Accreditation
Responsible Service of Alcohol attainment
As a result of the company’s expansion, guiding opportunities now exist for suitable persons touring in Kakadu/Litchfield National Parks, Tasmania & the East Coast of Australia. Wonderful opportunities also exist for trekking guides during the central Australia autumn & winter months on the Larapinta Trail with our sister company Walking Country.
Multi functional guides is our aim. It provides our guides with a great opportunity to learn skills way beyond other singular touring positions.
Once you have been through our training program then you go out on a number of tours with a senior tour guide until you’re totally confident and up to speed. Then you’re on your own!!

Alice Springs is the capital of the Australian Outback. The gateway to the World Heritage listed Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park and other Australian natural wonders. It is a small, diverse and friendly town with a population of 27,000 people. The region is large and timeless, its climate is dry and hot, totally different in every way to larger International cities and towns.
Wayoutback Desert Safaris does entertain Internship/Tourism Industry Training programs for International Students. This is only available to those that are studying tourism at the higher educational levels.
We are a small, privately owned ‘hands on’ company of approximately 16 employees. Your activities won't be restricted to one specific field, in fact you will gain experience in various areas of a Tour Operation such as Reservations, Basic Accounting, Management and Handling of Customer Requests, Marketing and Sales, Vehicle and Meal Preparation, Ordering, etc.
A good understanding of the English language and the tourism industry is a prerequisite. All applications should include the desired training experiences sought and the outcomes to be realised. Internships are generally an “unpaid” vocation however we will assist with accommodation and the like for the right person. A minimum Internship is 3 months. Touring of the local “hotspots” will be provided during your stay.
If successful, It is the applicant’s responsibility to source correct Visa’s, Immigration permission and the like, plus transport to Alice Springs. We will certainly assist where possible.
